A street vagrant named A Gou is caught red-handed stealing by constable Shen Yan. Just as he's about to be taken to the jail, he panics and shouts, "Officer, stop! I'll redeem myself through meritorious service!" Coincidentally, a wealthy merchant's murder and theft case occurs in the district, and Shen Yan is stuck with no leads. He reluctantly gives A Gou a chance. A Gou uses his street smarts to accidentally crack clues time and again, but also causes plenty of trouble. The two go from disliking and distrusting each other to forming a tacit partnership, and finally uncover a conspiracy involving multiple parties during their investigation.
