In 1930s Shanghai, Lin Wantang, the top actress of the "Yan Chun Lou" opera troupe, is called "The Enigmatic Lady"—wherever she performs, strange deaths occur: the chamber of commerce president died bleeding from seven orifices during her show, a warlord's adjutant dropped dead holding her handkerchief, and even detective Gu Jingshen drew his gun at her "ghost face makeup" on their first meeting. The more Gu investigates, the more shocked he is: the scar under Lin's sleeve matches that of the only survivor of the Lin family massacre a decade ago—the Lin family was wiped out for guarding a warlord's treasure, and the surviving little girl is now "The Enigmatic Lady". Just as Gu decides to help her, the mastermind reveals their fangs: it was Gu's father's "righteous act" that killed the Lin family? And the treasure map in Lin's hand has long been swapped? Amid twists, the "enigmatic lady" is just a可怜人 gnawed by hatred yet still kind, and her fate with Gu is tied into a dead knot by the old bloodshed.
