Lin Xiaoman, an ancient book restorer in Maple Grove Town, receives an anonymous maple leaf bookmark every late autumn—it’s a regret she’s hidden for ten years. As a child, she parted ways with her playmate Gu Chuan over a misunderstanding, and he promised to return when “the maples are at their reddest.” This year, photographer Gu Chuan bursts into her old bookstore with a camera, revealing the bookmark’s secret and forcing Xiaoman to face her feelings: she fears losing again, while he’s held a ten-year obsession to make up for an unspoken confession.
