In a northern riverside town of 1976, young Gu Lei lived alone, barely surviving on the work points from the production team. A torrential rain collapsed his neighbor's adobe house, and he rescued three little girls who had lost their parents from the ruins. The oldest was no more than ten, while the youngest was still in swaddling clothes. Despite the captain's dissuasion and neighbors' doubts, Gu Lei gritted his teeth and took on the heavy burden of raising them. He learned to cook and sew, saving his only coarse grains for the sisters. The three girls gradually lost their timidity and became the light in his dark days, kicking off a warm bond spanning through hardship.
