Set in the state-owned forest farm in Northeast China in 1983, Lin Wan, a female educated youth, signs a contractual marriage with Qin Zheng, the young farm director suspected of past cases, under the guise of a couple to look into her father's truth—he was accused of "suicide out of guilt" for a forest fire years ago. As they delve into the farm's core, they gradually fall in love from mutual wariness, but face repeated obstruction and schemes from the old farm director. Eventually, they expose that the fire was a trap set by the old director to embezzle resources. Lin Wan gets her revenge, Qin Zheng clears his family's injustice, and the two gain true love beyond the contract in this turbulent forest farm.
