Returned architect Cheng Yan (played by Han Dong) comes back to his hometown to renovate a century-old ancestral hall as per his grandfather's last wish, and stumbles upon Lin Xiaoman (played by Wang Zichun), a girl guarding the gardenia garden behind the hall. Xiaoman always says "gardenias remember everything," and in an old photo Cheng Yan finds in the attic, there's a girl who looks identical to Xiaoman—wearing the gardenia silver hairpin his grandfather clutched tightly before dying! As the hall's wooden beams are dismantled, a past buried by gardenia fragrance for seventy years resurfaces. Is Cheng Yan and Xiaoman's meeting a coincidence, or is the old days trying to "continue" an unfinished story?
