Wu Jianguo (played by Wu Gang), the old director of a state-owned bearing factory, refuses a real estate developer’s acquisition to keep his workers employed. Lin Chuan (played by Liu Xiaoxu), a German-educated engineer, is shocked to find that the factory he’s here to “save” is run by his long-lost father. The father clings to the old principle of “workers need to eat,” while the son pushes for “technical transformation.” From fierce clashes to uncovering the factory’s 30-year-old “Original Heart Files”—IOUs from workers pooling money for equipment in 1993, an old technician’s formula notebook, and Wu Jianguo’s promise to his late wife: “No worker gets laid off.” When the developer cuts the factory’s last loan, Lin Chuan takes out the core technology drawings his father hid for decades—turns out Wu Jianguo’s dream was to wait for his son to return and make “Chinese bearings top the world.” Father and son work with the workers overnight, securing an international order with their “Original Heart” bearings, and rediscovering the family bond and original heart hidden in “persistence.”
