The aircraft carrier project is suddenly blocked by foreign arresting gear technology. Lin Chuan, a young engineer, is determined to break the assertion that "it can't be built without foreign aid"—leading workshop masters to measure steel wire toughness with vernier calipers, calibrate tension by hand-hammering molds, and even using his daughter's skipping rope as an experimental prop. From being mocked as "too rustic" to witnessing the domestic arresting gear catch the carrier-based aircraft, these "handmade" rebels, with their most down-to-earth persistence, forged the "Chinese backbone" of the great power equipment.
