The second season of the "daily life-and-death bickering" between Emperor Shen Yan and Empress Jiang Tang of the Daning Dynasty is here! After competing last season to see who could make the other smash the imperial seal in anger, this season they face trouble from former dynasty remnants—someone forges Jiang Tang's treason letters. Shen Yan scolds her for "seeking death like a fool" but secretly rummages through the imperial study to destroy the evidence for her. Jiang Tang pretends to "poison the emperor with crane-top red" but replaces the poison with osmanthus honey and even takes an assassin's knife for him in secret. They put on a full show of "life-and-death bickering" in front of officials but blush when applying medicine to each other's wounds behind closed doors. It's not until the remnants set a trap that forces them into a "only one can survive" dilemma that they finally drop their pretense: "I scold you because I'm afraid you'll die first; I protect you because I can't live without you!"
