After three years working on an assembly line in Dongguan, A Ming returns to sort out his grandfather's belongings and finds a dusty black-glazed monkey statue. That night, bizarre occurrences plague his rental flat: takeaways are always misdelivered, and scraping sounds echo in the stairwell. Only when the statue opens its eyes does A Ming learn it’s a relic his grandfather left to suppress evil spirits in Dongguan’s old alleys. Now the seal has loosened, dormant monsters run amok, and A Ming is forced to team up with the revived black monkey to fight the weirdness in urban villages and workshops, while uncovering the secrets his grandfather buried for decades.
