Modern office worker Lin Chuan travels through time to become a lowly prison guard in a chaotic era. Upon waking up, he’s ordered by his superior to kill Jiang Ning, the imprisoned “Iron-Blooded Witch Empress” feared for her brutality. But he impulsively lets her go—out of sympathy for the unextinguished warmth in her eyes, or because he sees through the fate of “royal chess pieces” in the乱世? Jiang Ning regains power after returning to the palace, and her first imperial decree is to summon Lin Chuan to the palace. When the former prisoner becomes the supreme ruler, and the time traveler uncovers the empress’s hidden softness, in this gamble of “releasing a tiger back to the mountain,” who will win the heart first, and who will have the last laugh?
