Yue Yao, an unfavored concubine's daughter of the Prime Minister's mansion, is used as a pawn to marry Shen Yanzhi, the Marquis of Suihuai—rumored to have "killed three fiancées". She hides sleeping powder to escape on their wedding night, only to catch Shen tending to an injured egret in the garden at midnight. This "ferocious marquis" even has crumbs of osmanthus cake (left for her) on his fingers. It turns out the "wife-killer" rumor is a lie to evade court strife, and Shen has long remembered the little girl who dared to shield a maid from drinking at the palace banquet. When Yue Yao's legitimate sister comes to steal the "Madam Marquis" position and political enemies dig up Shen's "old cases", the two with secrets go from testing each other to standing side by side. The bright moon doesn't "fall into" Suihuai—it's her willing choice to crash into the arms that have long kept a light on for her.
