Sheng Li, the leading actress of the "Chaomu Opera Troupe", stuns everyone with her performance of "The Song of Pear Blossoms". The line "day and night" in the lyrics triggers a memory for Gu Zhaozhi, the young master of the military governor's mansion—his late mother used to teach him this opera. They fall in love through the play, but Sheng Li's real purpose is to avenge her mother, who was "forced to death" by Gu's father. Just as she obtains evidence of Gu's father's crimes, she discovers that her mother faked her death to protect Gu's mother. And Gu Zhaozhi, from the first time he heard her sing, already recognized her as the "Little Li'er" his mother mentioned on her deathbed. With the sword of revenge hanging in the air, how can the lovers resolve the misunderstanding spanning two generations?
