Chu Feng, heir to a bandit stronghold, goes undercover to take the imperial exam to clear his father’s “colluding with bandits” injustice. While preparing, he crosses paths with Su Wan, a nobleman’s daughter fleeing an arranged marriage—she hides in his dilapidated temple, forcing them to travel together. Chu’s “unorthodox methods” (using sleeping powder on bullies, robbing official silver to help the poor) clash repeatedly with Su’s strict adherence to etiquette (writing petitions against corrupt officials, convincing others with poetry). They bicker but secretly support each other. Yet as Chu gets closer to success, he discovers the mastermind behind his father’s冤案 points to Su’s father? This “exam” tests not just the heart of officialdom, but also their forbidden feelings.
