Su Ye, a “street-smart strategist” in the imperial city, is kidnapped by Empress Ye Zhao (who just ascended the throne) to suppress a rebellion. His ruthless trick of burning the grain mountain to force rebels to surrender solves the crisis, but Ye Zhao scolds him for “being too vicious and unconventional”.
