Lin Chuan (played by Qin Yinghao), a top medical graduate, gives up a big hospital offer to become a village doctor in Taohua Village to fulfill his grandfather's last wish. However, he faces exclusion from the old village doctor, distrust from villagers, and even Su Wan (played by Tu Rui), the left-behind children's teacher he saved at first sight, keeps him at arm's length. Until a flu outbreak hits the village—Lin Chuan saves the day with modern medicine and secretly raises money for Su Wan's critically ill mother. Their misunderstandings fade, but just as Lin Chuan is about to confess, Su Wan disappears—she fears her troubles will burden him. Finally, Lin Chuan finds her and promises, "You guard the children, I'll guard you and the village." Together, they become the mutual light of Taohua Village.
