Su Xiao, a grassroots poverty alleviation cadre, made an enemy of Zhou Qiang, a local tyrant occupying collective land, by helping a poor village develop strawberry planting. She was framed for embezzling 200,000 yuan in poverty alleviation funds—suspended, cyberbullied, and her mother hospitalized due to harassment. Desperate, she received crayon drawings from left-behind children: they depicted her teaching villagers to build greenhouses, with “Sister Su, we believe in you” on the back. The old village head also gave her villagers’ testimonies: everyone knew her goodness but stayed silent under threat. Reinvigorated by these warm “proofs”, Su gathered evidence of Zhou’s crimes and cleared her name. When the strawberry plantation harvested and villagers waited with a banner reading “Our Secretary Su”, she realized: her tiny light was just her sincere heart for the villagers—and that heart could cut through any abyss.
