Lin Xiaoman, an ordinary office worker, picks up a white cat named Azhao at midnight who claims to be a "down-and-out god". Azhao says he can only regain his divine power by collecting her "sincere smiles". To get rid of this clingy cat, Xiaoman is forced to start a "smile plan": taking it to eat sausage, watching old movies with it, even leaving it a small cake at her desk when working overtime. But as Azhao gradually transforms into a human, Xiaoman discovers that his regained power comes at the cost of her lost "sincerity"—the softness she hid to survive years ago is exactly Azhao's "divine origin". When Azhao is about to return to his godly position, Xiaoman must choose: let him become the high and mighty god, or keep the "Mr. Kitten" who rubs her palm for sausage?
