Lin Chujiu, a young paper craftsman, inherits his grandfather's old shop and stumbles upon a secret in the ancestral paper-making art—his paper figures can summon ghosts. Just then, a series of bride disappearances hits the town, with his shop's paper mandarin ducks left at every crime scene. To prove his innocence, Lin is forced into a Liaozhai-style ghostly world: he encounters a fox spirit weeping at a grave, a vengeful ghost hiding in a bridal sedan, and even uncovers a decades-old pact his grandfather made with ghosts. As he nears the truth, he realizes all the hauntings stem from a century-old obsession—and his paper-cutting knife must not only slay ghosts, but also redeem souls.
