After ten years as a Beipiao, Lin Xiaoman rushes home to inherit her grandmother's old tavern in front of the Bell and Drum Tower, only to encounter Uncle Zhou, an old carpenter who has guarded the tavern for thirty years—he refuses to leave and produces a handwritten letter from her grandmother stating, “This shop is half his.” From clashing over locked doors to uncovering sugar papers in old account books and unsent love letters, Xiaoman realizes this “stubborn old man” was her grandmother's lifelong “unspoken love.” When a demolition order arrives, what they fight to preserve is not just the tavern, but the half-century regret of two elderly souls.
