Du Yuze, a rough retired soldier, is forced by his family to marry Xu Ziyin—known as the “timid doormat” of the village who “can’t even squeeze out a drop of toughness.” He expects a docile wife to dote on, but soon discovers his “timid” wife is a hidden badass: she shuts down his nitpicking mother with sharp retorts, uses money from her street stall to help him open a repair shop, and even saves him from a devastating business scam with her 80s “market economy smarts.” From “making do” to “falling hard,” the “timid” wife’s “sass” becomes the rough guy’s most solid anchor.
