In the winter of 1977, Lin Wan, an educated youth, had her city return quota stolen by her stepsister Lin Xiaotang through schemes, forcing her to stay in Cherry Valley, a poor mountain village. Disheartened, she discovered the village’s wild cherries were delicious but hard to preserve—so she used her Agricultural College knowledge to improve the variety and build a cold storage. Just as the cooperative thrived, Lin Xiaotang returned with her businessman boyfriend to buy the orchard and turn Cherry Valley into a resort (destroying the trees). Lin Wan united villagers to expose the truth via live stream, saving the orchard and making “Cherry Valley” an internet-famous brand. In the end, she gained villagers’ trust, got together with Chen Mo (the village party secretary’s son who’d always supported her), and lived a life brighter than any city return—like a thousand suns.
