Su Xiao, a feisty ER nurse, mistakes Gu Jingshen, a stoic surgeon, for a medical troublemaker during a misunderstanding. They go from bickering at every meeting to being forced to collaborate on the hospital’s public welfare clinic project. While they clearly can’t stand each other, they catch glimpses of each other’s soft sides—Gu staying up late to soothe a crying child, Su shielding Gu from an aggressive patient. It turns out Gu’s coldness is armor for the pain of losing his mother as a child, and Su’s “sharpness” is a shell to protect her terminally ill mom. When Su thinks their budding feelings are just a “wrong match” farce, Gu holds her forgotten mother’s medical record, eyes red, and says: “I didn’t misidentify you—you’re the partner I want to stand with for life.”
