A modern family of five accidentally travels back to the warlord-era Republic of China due to a sudden accident. The father becomes a down-and-out scholar, the mother is a stand-in for a warlord’s wife, the college-age daughter is forced to marry the warlord’s son but falls into a forbidden tragic romance with a young adjutant; the rebellious son joins the underground Party and gets involved in assassination plots, the little brother becomes an attendant in the warlord’s mansion. They must adapt to the cruel rules of the old era, struggle among love, faith and family ties, and while searching for a way back, they are swept up by the tide of the times.
