In the 1980s, Cuilian, a tough pig-slaughtering girl, is forced to marry Tiezhu, a disabled veteran. After moving to the village, she's troubled by her nasty relatives. No longer the soft persimmon people used to think, she uses her brute strength and quick wits to shut down those who pick on her.
