Su Wantang, a merchant's daughter, married into the Marquis' Mansion to save her seriously ill father, but was treated as a "business pawn" by her husband Gu Yanqing for two years. Her sister-in-law Zhou even kept smearing her as "bringing misfortune to relatives and the mansion". When news of her father's recovery came, she threw the divorce letter in public at the Marquis' family banquet: "I've had enough of the cold faces and meals for two years!" She then married Lu Zhao, the Shaoqing of Dali Temple who had been silently protecting her. When Gu Yanqing regretted and tried to get her back, Su Wantang had already used her dowry silk shops to bankrupt the Marquis' cloth business. She also presented Zhou's forged evidence of her adultery and Gu Yanqing's love letters to his first love—turns out she had long prepared a backup plan. This time, she was going to get back the dignity the Marquis' Mansion owed her with interest!
