Shen Yanqiu, the national-protecting female general, fought in the northwest for a decade. Just after defeating the Hu tribes, she got a secret report—her daughter Nian'an was tricked by her stepmother into marrying the son of a powerful minister as a concubine, and was locked in the woodshed, on the brink of death, for refusing to consummate the marriage. She led light cavalry back to the capital overnight, kicked open the Hou Mansion's gate, and split the chains to save her daughter. Facing her cowardly husband, she threw the late emperor's divorce edict: "My Shen family's daughter will never endure humiliation!" She then sued the scoundrel for domestic violence, forcing the powerful family to apologize. Finally, she held her daughter, mounted her warhorse, and rode to the frontier, leaving only a line: "The dirty water of the court is not worthy of staining us."
