Su Wantang, the only female magistrate in the Great Zhou Dynasty, is known as the "Living Yama" for her stunning beauty and iron-fisted methods—she slams the gavel in court to force a prince to acknowledge his illegitimate child, crushes a noble's jade fan while chasing criminals in the market, and never makes a mistake in solving cases. But Gu Zhao, a cold-faced constable from the capital, insists on "undermining" her: he mocks her for "solving cases with her looks as a woman" and always steals clues from her in a series of thefts. Until Su Wantang uncovers a shocking illegal salt trafficking case behind the thefts, and the killer tries to stab her at night—Gu Zhao suddenly jumps in front of her to take the blow. It turns out he didn't come to pick a fight; he came to help her find the truth about her father's wrongful death years ago!
