Su Wan, a tough journalist investigating her family's bankruptcy, disguises as a rookie secretary to infiltrate the company of Gu Tingshen, the cold and suspected CEO, to gather evidence. But Gu seems to anticipate her every move: a warm plate of sweet and sour ribs appears in her drawer when she works late, he rescues her in time when she's surrounded while tracking clues, and even carries her to the hospital despite his own injuries when she gets a fever from rain. Su thinks she's "plotting", until she confronts him drunk—Gu holds her with red eyes: "I set the trap first. Since the day you handed me an umbrella three years ago, I've wanted to keep you close." She then realizes: all "coincidences" are his gentle traps, and her heart has long fallen silently into this love game.
