Ordinary office worker Lin Xiao, who just moved into an old residential complex, accidentally finds a yellowed letter from 1927 in the community mailbox. Out of curiosity, she writes a reply, only to receive a response from Shen Yan, a teacher from a century ago. The two communicate across time via the old mailbox that has been in use for ages, chatting about poetry, daily trivialities and wartime worries, and gradually develop affection. But when Lin Xiao learns that Shen Yan is about to be caught up in a fatal era of turmoil, she tries to warn him through letters to avoid danger, only to find every intervention triggers unexpected chain crises, sending this cross-century communication spiraling out of control.
