The ancient fantasy short drama *Return with the Phoenix* follows Ah Gui, a young phoenix rescued by Immortal Lord Mo Yuan. Resenting his “unfeeling” discipline, she runs away, only to be hunted by demon cultivators—where Mo Yuan, who’d been secretly protecting her, sacrifices his life to save her. Clutching his shattered life jade, she finally realizes the tenderness she’d ignored: the hands that covered her at night, the rock sugar haws slipped into her sleeve, the back that took her punishments. The line “I lost the one I should never have lost” becomes her regret spanning millennia—yet before vanishing, Mo Yuan hid his soul in the silver bell she’d given him, staying with her through every dawn and dusk she misses him.
