Set in 1980 in a heavy industrial town of Northeast China, Zhao Shanhe, a young blacksmith, falls in love with Li Guilan, a girl from the factory's propaganda team, after an accidental encounter. But era-related prejudice, family barriers and a misunderstanding force the two apart—Guilan leaves her hometown, while Shanhe stays behind. Years later, they meet again during the wave of factory restructuring in early China's reform and opening-up. The half-hidden love becomes a sharp blade in each other's hearts, and past regrets and unspoken truths collide with reality. Where will this time-crossed torturous love story in Northeast China go?
