Su Wan, a young doctor, rescues Gu Zhao—a blind, down-and-out imperial uncle—on a rainy night. She thinks she’s doing a good deed, but Gu Zhao is actually faking blindness: a “black lotus” who acts weak and dependent, yet secretly plots to regain power, even using her medical skills to hide his severe injuries. When Su Wan finds the secret letter in his blind cane, and when an assassin’s sword is about to strike her—Gu Zhao, who once let her shield him, suddenly steps in to protect her. She realizes: this “fateful encounter” was his plan all along. But the ginger tea he brewed for her late at night, the hands he quietly warmed to keep her from the cold—are these real feelings, or just another part of his scheme?
