Shen Yuzhen, a general's daughter, married into the Pei Mansion but was framed by her sister-in-law with fake evidence of adultery. She died with a grievance, becoming a ghost trapped there for twenty years. Her son Pei Zhao, labeled a "bastard" since childhood, endured humiliation and studied hard, finally topping the imperial exam at eighteen. When he returns home, Shen Yuzhen's spirit finally meets him—she aims to reveal the truth of her unjust death, but more crucially, to guide Pei Zhao, who's consumed by hatred, to let go: "Mother never sought revenge. All I want is for you to find your own light."
