Down-and-out constable Lin Zhao takes in a stray kid Xiaotang out of kindness, only to be framed for a mass murder. Just as he's about to be executed, Xiaotang reveals her ability to talk to animals: she hears from a black cat that the real culprit is the victim's stepson, uses pigeons to alert the magistrate, and commands dogs to stop the killer from silencing Lin. Finally, Lin is saved. Only then does he discover Xiaotang is the missing Qiling Princess who can communicate with all living things—and her arrival holds a bigger secret.
