Lin Chuan, a reclusive divine doctor, goes by the alias "A Chuan" and sells herbs in the market to investigate the truth of his family's old massacre. Because of his shabby clothes, he's mistaken for a beggar by Su Xiaoyu, a wealthy young lady, who humiliates him publicly and is even pushed to the ground by her suitors. Unexpectedly, he saves Su Lao Ye—Xiaoyu's grandfather—who suffers a sudden heart attack. To his shock, Su Lao Ye recognizes the jade medical token around his waist and immediately announces that he will betroth his granddaughter to Lin Chuan! Xiaoyu is furious and declares, "I'd rather die than marry a beggar," but when Lin Chuan cures her chronic migraine with acupuncture, she realizes this "beggar" is far from ordinary... And behind Su Lao Ye's "son-in-law selection," lies the key clue to the massacre that Lin Chuan has been searching for.
