Lin Xiaoman sets up a handmade stall near the university town to save tuition fees, only to have her stall destroyed and be insulted by rich second-generation Zhao Lei. She cries to her father Lin Jianguo, who only repairs electric bikes, but he just silently takes out his savings book to compensate her. Disappointed, she shouts, "You're such a coward!" Until Zhao Lei brings a group to confront her, Lin Jianguo arrives on his beat-up e-bike and makes a call—ten minutes later, Zhao's father, a local tycoon, appears and respectfully says, "Captain Lin!" It turns out Lin Jianguo is a retired detective who saved Zhao's father years ago; he pretended to be "useless" just to keep his daughter away from danger and silently guard her ordinary life.
