Cerebral palsy teen Lin Xiaoman was always seen as “redundant” by his parents, especially after his younger brother was born—his parents stole his Tsinghua University recommendation letter and gave the quota to his brother just to get the latter into a key high school. Only Grandma, a scrap collector, didn’t believe he “failed”—she rode her rickety tricycle to take him to tutoring in the county every day, saving every penny from selling scrap for his tuition. Until Tsinghua’s admissions office came to verify the information. When the truth came out, the whole village looked at Grandma’s patched apron and the crumpled review notes in Xiaoman’s hand, realizing: The stupid one wasn’t “retarded” Xiaoman, but the parents who turned family love into favoritism. And Grandma’s scrap cart never carried garbage—it carried the future of an abandoned child.
