Zhang Jianguo, the neighborhood's "nice guy", secretly destroys his neighbor's water pipe over a housing land dispute and hits a renowned provincial doctor—who is the only one capable of saving his seriously ill grandson—while drunk driving. When the neighbor's surveillance footage exposes his evil deeds and the hospital informs him the doctor is comatose and can't operate, he realizes he's the one who cut off his grandson's last hope. His grandson dies, and he collapses in the hospital corridor, staring at the slogan "Karma always finds its way" on the wall, consumed by regret.
