A Dou, a beggar boy living on villagers' charity, stumbles upon Elder Zhou—who is about to be buried—still breathing. Ignoring the villagers' curses of "disturbing the dead," he uses a folk moxibustion remedy with艾草 (wormwood) to save the elder. The villagers call him a "jinx" and accuse him of swindling money; even Elder Zhou's son tries to chase him away. But when Elder Zhou wakes up, he gives A Dou his house, fish pond, and all his savings—because he knows his son is unfilial, and A Dou is the only one who dared to save him.
