Ah Lin, a poor young man, is shunned and insulted by the entire village for adopting Xiaotang—a girl labeled 'jinxed' for 'killing her family'. Even his only shabby hut is splattered with dung. But Xiaotang, who can read the ancestors' water conservancy books, leads the villagers to build canals, divert mountain springs, and grow drought-resistant rice. When dry fields sprout green shoots and starving children hold hot porridge, the villagers kneel before Ah Lin and Xiaotang with teary eyes—realizing that the most despicable thing is their prejudice, and the most revered are kindness and miracles.
