Mom & Dad Divorced: Who Do I Choose?

Ten-year-old Xiaotang is suddenly dragged into the living room by her parents, who announce their divorce and ask her to pick who to live with. Dad promises weekly Haagen-Dazs trips; Mom, tears in her eyes, says she’ll keep Xiaotang’s doll-filled bedroom. But Xiaotang saw it all—Dad secretly heated milk for Mom this morning, and Mom slipped Dad’s forgotten laptop into his briefcase last night when he worked late. She hides her favorite teddy bear in the community flower bed, then sends a sobbing message: “I lost my bear.” When her panicked parents find her together, Xiaotang wipes her tears and tugs their sleeves: “I don’t choose Dad, I don’t choose Mom—I choose all three of us, going home together.”
