In 1955, 18-year-old rural girl Lin Guilan was forced by her biased parents to marry a lame old bachelor as a bride exchange to get a bride price for her brother. Fleeing to the city overnight with no relatives or savings, she refused to give in and bravely took the entrance exam for a state-owned factory. Facing her parents' forced marriage and various obstacles, she publicly exposed her parents' selfishness, finally got the job with her own ability, and became the master of her own life in the spring of 1955, playing an inspiring story of a girl rebelling against fate.
