Xu Nian, a solo white-collar worker, has a new neighbor Lin Xiaoman who hoards low-quality electrical appliances. Xu warns her repeatedly, “These things are fire hazards,” but Lin rolls her eyes: “Mind your own business.” Until late at night, the smell of burning seeps under the door—Xu smashes Lin’s door, only to find thick smoke inside. She’s just pulling out her phone to call the police when a “boom” shakes the corridor, and flames devour half the hallway.
