In the chaotic early Republic era, famous opera singer Liu Ruyan is forcibly taken as a concubine by warlord Lei Zhentian after performing 'Song of Eternal Sorrow'. While feigning obedience, she secretly conspires with revolutionary Xu Mo for revenge. During Lei's birthday banquet, the opera troupe strikes up a rearranged version of the song - gunshots blend with aria as a bloody vengeance erupts amidst fireworks.
