Thirty-year-old Lin Shen is determined to become a monk. While packing, he finds an old mailbox left by his mother—inside are 37 unopened letters, each hiding a secret about his father. On his journey, he’s mistaken for a guest by Su Xiaotang, a mischievous inn owner, and "dragged" back to the ancient town. To fulfill Su’s grandma’s final wish, Lin has to unravel the letters’ mysteries while being pulled into the warmth of ordinary life: feeding the inn’s cats with Su, making medicine for the grandma, and hearing the town’s elders talk about his mother’s past. Gradually, he realizes his mother’s "retreat" was never giving up, but loving him with hidden wounds; and his own "escape" was just cowardice. When Su says tearfully, "What about me if you leave?" and the last letter reads, "Mom wants you to be a person with warmth," Lin stands at the temple gate holding the shaving knife—then suddenly turns and runs toward the girl who’s holding his forgotten letters, gasping for breath. Turns out, "retreating from the world" isn’t about hiding in a temple; it’s about daring to stay and embrace a fiery love.
