Lin Xiaoman, an archaeology student, travels back to 1925 (the Republic of China era) when the ancient hairpin she's restoring emits light—all to find "Chen Mo," the man her past-life diary says she promised to meet in the next life. She accidentally saves Shen Yan, a warlord's son, from an assassination, and he falls for her at first sight. But her eyes are fixed on Chen, Shen's adjutant—his face matches the sketches in her diary! Xiaoman tries to get close to Chen, but Shen keeps interfering: bringing her an umbrella in the rain, taking a bullet for her, even defying his father for her... Until she finds an old silver ring in Shen's belongings—paired with her hairpin, inscribed with "Xiaoman" inside. She realizes: "Chen Mo" was Shen's alias in her past life. She'd been looking for the wrong person, but fell for the right one. But as the time rift starts to close, she must choose between chasing the past or grabbing the present.
