Set in the 1980s, Lin Chen, a highly-educated educated youth from the city, faces severe ostracism and obstacles in a remote village on barren hills. Locals mock his "foolish idea" of turning infertile sandy land into an oasis and exclude him. Only Su Xiao, daughter of the village Party secretary, secretly helps him with water and tools. With persistence and professional knowledge, Lin Chen leads villagers to overcome difficulties like water shortage and sandstorms, reclaiming the land step by step. Finally, the barren hills turn into an oasis, he transforms from an outsider into the whole village’s benefactor and gains Su Xiao’s sincere love, writing a passionate counterattack youth legend of the 1980s.
