Su Xiaotang has been a free maid in her in-laws' house for three years. On New Year's Eve, she’s been slaving in the kitchen since dawn—her mother-in-law mocks her for cutting onions too thick, her sister-in-law steals her new red New Year’s dress, and even her husband tells her to “just endure it.” When her mother-in-law deliberately knocks over the chicken soup she spent three hours simmering, yelling “You can’t even make soup right—you don’t deserve our family,” she snaps! She flips the table, slams down photos of her husband with his colleague, and shouts: “I’ve been your servant for three years, but you treated me like nothing! Tomorrow I’m moving to Shanghai for my new job, and we’re getting a divorce!” The noisy living room falls silent. She storms out in her high heels, leaving everyone staring at the mess in shock.
