While burning the midnight oil on a proposal, modern office worker Lin Xiaoman is suddenly bound to the "Client Redemption System" and tumbles into 1930s Shanghai. The system issues a strict order: she must fulfill the ultimate demands of ten Republican-era "clients" to return home. But these clients are increasingly difficult— a warlord asks her to retrieve a relief grain list that can save the city, an opera star wants her to solve his poisoning case, and a chamber of commerce daughter needs her to expose her fiancé's marriage fraud. When she finds the list for the warlord, she discovers he secretly took a bullet for her; solving the star's case uncovers a past-life death pact with him. Just as she's about to finish the mission, the system announces the final client—Lu Shichuan, the Republican-era professor she secretly loves, whose demand is: "Make me forget you completely!" Only then does she realize all missions are a trap set by the system, and her fate with Lu Shichuan began a century ago...
